Frequently Asked Questions

How can I join Delta Kappa Delta?

If you are interested in joining a Delta Kappa Delta at your university, take a look at our Chapters & Charters page to contact sxsters on campus and get more information. You may also contact our National Vice President of New Membership Intake.

What is a service sorority?

Philanthropy is one of the main pillars of many Greek organizations. Community service and volunteering, therefore, remain at the forefront of Greek life activities, with members giving over 10 million hours of volunteer service each year.

The primary purpose is for our sxsters is to come together while giving back. We aim to promote professionalism, culture, character development, sisterhood, and leadership to help change and shape the community around you. Visit our Service page to learn more about the impact Delta Kappa Delta has on the community.

How much time does Delta Kappa Delta take up?

Like most good things in life, one gets out whatever they put into an effort or organization. The first year will take a little more time learning about the Greek life, our organization and membership. Participation in many of the activities to get to know the other members is a good way to enjoy the benefits of Greek life.

As with college in general, after the first year, students have figured out how much time they can put into the group without sacrificing academic progress.

While Greek life is a bonding experience, all groups recognize that academic work comes first. Delta Kappa Delta encourages those who are able to balance having something similar to an additional college course in their schedule to explore going Greek.

How much does it cost?

Delta Kappa Delta dues are reasonable and are collected on a per-semester basis. We understand that as a student, financial priorities go towards university tuition and housing needs. We are transparent with our finance and accounting procedures within our local chapters, as well as nationally.

Additionally, we are flexible and open to offering financial assistance and payment plans. Get in touch with our National Vice President of Finance for more information on charter dues.

What is Delta Kappa Delta’s drugs and alcohol policy?

Delta Kappa Delta's philanthropy is the prevention and awareness of child abuse. Child abuse is often linked with the use of drugs or alcohol, and sxsters are therefore, not allowed to associate their letters in the presence of alcohol.

This does not restrict sxsters from making their own choices on their own time. However, when representing Delta Kappa Delta, we observe a zero tolerance policy regarding drugs and alcohol.

Does your organization haze?

Delta Kappa Delta is a strictly non-hazing sorority. Therefore, we are completely against any forms of hazing. Our National Guidelines as well as Our Chapters' & Charters' Universities Guidelines state that there is a zero tolerance policy against hazing.

If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact our National Risk Management Director for more information about hazing guidelines for your university.

Is Greek life similar to its depiction on television and in movies?

While Greek life is also about enjoying your time on campus, the movie and TV depictions of Greek organizations tend to be an exaggeration and fictitious picture of reality. Greek life prioritizes academic and social balance. Members of both sororities and fraternities work hard and enjoy their time together while also being able to contribute to their organization and the community.

Will joining Delta Kappa Delta affect my grades?

Delta Kappa Delta recognizes that academics are a number one priority. In order to be eligible to join our organization, each potential member must have a term and cumulative GPA of a 2.70. Once they join our sxsterhood, each sxster is required to maintain a term and cumulative GPA of 2.50. We also implement regular academic check-ins and provide our members with resources, such as academic programming for interests and sxsters, to challenge themselves inside and outside of the classroom.

Our first priority is to ensure all sxsters are successful in their academic careers and are an inspiration for members that will continue down the same paths.

How does the recruitment process work?

Our Recruitment Week is offered at the beginning of each academic semester. During this week, we offer many events for those interested in learning more about our sxsterhood, including two mandatory events: an informational and a service event. These will give you the opportunity to meet our sxsters and understand the core values of our organization.

Upon attending these events, local charter members will invite all qualifying individuals to join them for a professional interview and formal gathering.

Then, bids will be offered to become an “Associate” of Delta Kappa Delta and commit to a process in which we will promote building interpersonal skills, teamwork, professionalism, education on different cultures, character development, encourage everlasting bonds and create leaders for our organization and for personal success.

To learn more about the recruitment process, find your local DKD chapter or charter through our Chapters & Charters page and contact a sxster on campus for more information. You may also contact our National Vice President of New Membership Intake.
